How long do you charge a Black and Decker 18-volt battery?

Q. I have four Black and Decker 18-Volt Firestorm batteries. I've been charging them on the simple wall charger for about three hours each. They charge but I just think they should last a little longer than they do in my drill, circular saw, flashlight, and weed eater. (all interchangable black and decker 18 volt products) Am I charging them too much or too little?

A. If you are using a charger that is intended for the battery, you may leave it on cradle overnight to make sure you are charging it at full capacity.

If you are using a substitute charger, have it charged longer but check if the battery will get hotter than normal. If it won't get hot, have it charged overnight.

Is it possible to use an 18 volt drill battery too charge a laptop?
Q. I have an 18 volt drill battery and charger. At full charge the output is 19.7 volts. The output on my laptop charger is 19.5 volts. Can I just hook the battery directly into the laptop for extended outdoor use?

A. no...

Can you run a 18 volt battery weed-eater on a 24 volt battery?
Q. I just got an 18 volt black and decker battery weed-eater with 3 batteries.
I have 6 24 volt batteries that came with other various black and decker tools i bought. I would like to know if it is possible to run my weed-eater off of my 24 volt batteries. They have the exact same ends just the 24 volts are taller.

If it even works will it damage either the weed-eater or the batteries?

A. it will burn up the motor.

can i use a 18 volt battery from a drill in a 18 volt circular saw?
Q. i want to get set of 18 volt cordless power tools, but i am too cheap to buy them all at once. Can i buy them from differnet brands and still expect the batteries to be interchangable?

A. if you buy both a drill and a saw that are made by the same manufacturer then usualy the batteries will be interchangable. If they are made by different companies there is virtualy no chance of being able to use the same battery for both.

If you are going to buy them both you will usualy save money buying them together. Manufacturers often sell combo packs with multipul tools that cost considerably less than buying each of the tools seperately.

If you are looking to buy 18v cordless I recomend the Skil brand. I've had a set of the Skil cordless saws and drill for about five years. Among other features the Skil circular saw takes a standard 7 1/4" blade where as most cordless saws only take 5 1/2 - 6 1/2" blades. Not only does this give it a greater cutting capacity but it also means the blades for it are more readily available, available in a much larger variety for different materials, and considerably cheaper than the smaller blades.
