i want to get set of 18 volt cordless power tools, but i am too cheap to buy them all at once. Can i buy them from differnet brands and still expect the batteries to be interchangable?

Answer
if you buy both a drill and a saw that are made by the same manufacturer then usualy the batteries will be interchangable. If they are made by different companies there is virtualy no chance of being able to use the same battery for both.

If you are going to buy them both you will usualy save money buying them together. Manufacturers often sell combo packs with multipul tools that cost considerably less than buying each of the tools seperately.

If you are looking to buy 18v cordless I recomend the Skil brand. I've had a set of the Skil cordless saws and drill for about five years. Among other features the Skil circular saw takes a standard 7 1/4" blade where as most cordless saws only take 5 1/2 - 6 1/2" blades. Not only does this give it a greater cutting capacity but it also means the blades for it are more readily available, available in a much larger variety for different materials, and considerably cheaper than the smaller blades.

Can you use a 24 volt drill with a lesser volt battery ?

Got a Black and Decker 24 volt drill and the batteries are not sold anywhere. I always see 18 volt batteries at Walmart or Home Depot can I use ease batteries as a replacement for the 24 volt battery?

Answer
Nope. While the 18V may allow the drill to operate at a diminished capacity, the amount of amps drawn will kill the battery quickly.

How do I charge/jump start the 18 volt battery of an antique car?

Jbare

It's a 1947 Cadillac, I was supposed to be starting it up periodically for the owner, but there's not enough juice. Can I just use a regular 12 volt starting pack, or just jump it off of my truck like a 12 volt battery, or are my options more limited?

Answer
First, a 47 Caddy has a 6-volt system not 18 volts. And, no, you cannot jump it with a 12 volt battery without risking serious damage to hard to find parts. Purchase a battery charger with a 6/12 switching system and use it to keep the battery charged.
